13 Jul 2016 07:11 AM. Saw an interesting Youtube video a bit ago. Guy took a lemon sized smooth quartz stone from a gold bearing river and crushed It using a steel mallet and t-shirt. As he broke it up, he checked for gold veins and found none, but panned out the crushed rock and found what appeared to be nearly 0.5 grams of nice gold flakes.
Fill it up about halfway and then place the rock in the water (assuming it's small enough to do so). You can measure how big the rock is by how much water is displaced. If the water line moves up 3/4 of a cup then that's how big the rock is. You can use Google to convert that volume to cubic centimeters.

Quartz and gold are often found together because they are chemically complimentary at a molecular level and because of the accommodating structure and formation of quartz. Since gold is a softer metal, it can flow through and form inside the mineral of quartz and become trapped inside as the stone develops. Within this article, we will quickly ...

Quartz is a mineral composed of silicon and oxygen, with a chemical composition of SiO 2. It is the most abundant mineral in Earth's crust and is resistant to both chemical and physical weathering. When rocks weather away, the residual material usually contains quartz. This is why the sand at most of the world's beaches is quartz.

The rocks are found on the earth's surface everywhere in the world. The likeliest places are water sources where erosion can occur, including riverbeds, coasts, and ponds. 2. Igneous Rocks. The rocks are primarily metal-bearing ornamental rocks. In some cases, gold particles in the rocks are visible to the eye.
Conclusion. All three types of rocks can contain gold; Sedimentary, Metamorphic, and Igneous. The most commonly known rock to contain gold is quartz rock and this is due to the visibility of the gold within the rock. Many of the other rocks will not have such visibility of their gold contents. The only way to know if it is gold bearing is to ...
The earliest known gold deposit was found in sedimentary rocks, which have been dated to 2.5 billion years old. This was in the Archean greenstone belt, which was a volcanic-sedimentary sequence that includes ultramafic rocks, dolerite, basalt, sandstone, shale, and chert. It is also possible to find gold in other types of sedimentary rock ...

A: Looking for gold deposits is a humbling experience for PhD geologists. That's because there are uneducated people wearing little more than jeans, loin-clothes, or perhaps nylon shorts and flip-flops, who have already found them. That's certainly the case historically in California, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and Africa where I have worked.
8. Check the mining pan periodically to see if the gold is extracted. Pull the mining pan out of the water and look at the pieces that remain in the pan. Pick out any gold pieces and place them in a separate container. Continue to shake the mining pan in the water until you've picked out all of the gold pieces.
The easiest method to use is simply to crush and mechanically separate the gold like you would when panning. This doesn't yield pure gold, but it'll allow you to recover all visible particles from the crushed quartz. Start by finding a spot you can hammer and smash in peace. It's … See more
