Orion ST80 & Stellarvue Nighthawk

Telescopes are not intended to be dropped, but if there is a telescope that could be dropped and still work, the Stellarvue Nighthawk is it. Everything on the Stellarvue Nighthawk it is overbuilt. On the Stellarvue Nighthawk, the dew shield is thick aluminum, probably about 3/16" thick, about twice as thick as the same part on the Orion ST80.

Stellarvue or Takahashi?

I thought when I read the webpage for the SVX130, I saw that it used FPL-53 but looking at it again, I see only extra low dispersion, in Stellarvue Speak this means something along the lines of FPL-51. For $5000, I would want FPL-53 or an equivalent, especially when the alternative is the TOA 130 which is a dual FPL-53 scope.

New to Astronomy

Stellarvue wide-field refractor telescopes have specific advantages over larger reflectors: 1. Often, when customers decide to upgrade to a larger Stellarvue ...

Access

Telescopes with optics this good require an enormous amount of time. We can spend more than a month getting an apo triplet lens to .98-997 Strehl or higher. We think this is time well spent. During this same time period, Stellarvue developed the Access series of telescopes for beginners. Unlike our Premier refractors with hand figured optics ...

Optical Glass Types

The SVX180T uses FPL55 (see below) and the rest FPL53. Ohara FPL53 versus FPL55. Investing in optical glass in large sizes is expensive and risky. Ohara is now making a new SD glass, FPL55.
